Hello,

Mathematician here. I am starting to fiddle with physics a bit, which I have not touched since my undergrad. I am currently a grad student and our professor told us to brush up on information theory, so I have been.

This subject question popped into my head and I figured this is the best place to ask.

I remember a physicist friend telling me the universe is discrete and talking about superimposed waves or something like that having integer values (maybe like orbitals?).

I was thinking if the universe is discrete the notion of multiverses would seem flawed. If the universe is discrete to me that implies that it is minimized to the highest possible degree that it can be, and why have infinite information existing by superposition? That seems like the universe generating a lot of information that it need not generate.
