Just became aware this function exists 5 minutes ago doing an integral looking over some calc 3 problems I skipped last semester.

Any statistics class implicitly uses it when working with normal distributions.
In my high school stat class, our textbook had tables in the back for its values but the name was never mentioned.

Idk about physics as I only did 3 semesters of it but we use it a lot in control systems engineering and signal processing.
