Something is puzzling me /sci/- and it is the complete absence of any mention of lucid dreaming in discussions of the dream argument in skeptical philosophy - absent even in criticisms against it, is lucid dreaming really so rare and unknown that its existence completely eluded Descartes when he made his dream argument, as well as Locke and Hobbes who attempted to debunk Descartes?
If anything this is just further proof that the dream argument is bullshit, the confirmed scientifically verified existence of lucid dreaming (verified as recently as 1970's) disproves the dream argument and the proposition that reality may be nothing more than a dream, and that there is no way to distinguish between dream and reality, yet of course there is a way - lucid dreaming, where one is not only aware of their dreaming circumstance but also able to control the dream and the characters, environment and plot within either partially or fully. If one were to experience a lucid dream where they have control over some or all of the circumstances of the dream, then one can conclude that there is a difference between dreaming and reality, by attempting to manifest the same level of control in waking reality and failing, proving the unmistakable difference and distinction between dreams and reality.
