Let's say I had an infinite space filled with a gaseous fluid of a constant composition and constant conditions (pressure, temperature, etc). I create a sound in that space which propagates and let's just say it drops -3db after interacting with on average 1000 particles (I know it would be many many magnitudes bigger than that).

If I were to increase the pressure of that gas but maintain the same kinetic energy, would a sound still lose -3db over 1000 particles, and become quieter in a shorter distance, or is there something else that would influence how fast the sound drops?
