I am a writer/world builder who has a story/setting idea that takes place on a small continent, isolated from the rest of the world. What would I need to consider? Are there any good sources for this kind of thing?

What era does this take place?
Is it near the equator?
Has ot been influenced by outside cultures?
Are they hunter gatherers or farmers.
Are they humans?

This. Most books are written by English majors and liberal arts majors. Few people care about scientific accuracy in their fiction books. Just look at the handmaid's tale, lord of the rings, dune, star wars, etc.

Counterexamples would only be jurrasic park, the martian, and interstellar.

Closest you'll get to real world examples would include Amazon tribes and those hostile fucks off the coast of India on that tiny island.
You may also want to consider what hemisphere and thus what constallations are in the sky and thus what characters are in their religion.
Also climate- arid, temperate, jungle, etc. This would effect ease of resource procurement, animals available, agriculture, willingness to get off their ass and invent, etc etc etc.
