Elves are pretty much always depicted as having pointed ears, though some examples in fiction have longer ears than others. What advantages would such ears actually provide? A lot of the time, elves are depicted as having much better hearing than humans, would that actually be the case? What about the difference between the longer ears, like picture related, and the shorter ones? Any thoughts?
