>>11234362It's amusing to me to read this thread. I'll try to answer it anecdotally, as I am from the Northwest Territory's originally, though I don't live there anymore...
But having lived "North of 60" and having been there myself, I strongly believe it's due to the sun because every year, there's a spot of time where the sun doesn't go down, at all. And it's a weird thing. You travel so far North that Time warps and the sun stops going down. Or at least that's what it feels like. Most of my cousins, aunts, uncles, etc, would tinfoil off their windows to sleep properly during these months.
This also explains the short, flat noses and the weather-beaten faces. The way the skin was on my grandfathers face, you can tell he spent most of his life getting tanned by the sun. He had skin like leather.
