Atoms have electrons.
An individual electron can gain and lose energy.

It can gain 100 arbitrary units of energy, then release two units of 50, or four of 25, or x of 100/x.

CO2 has two bonds between a carbon atom and an oxygen atom. These are double bonds O=C=O.

CO2 absorbs and emits infrared light to a greater degree than it does visible light (see pic related)

Visible light from the sun passes the CO2 on Earth, reaches the surface, gets converted to two units of infrared, which find it difficult to leave Earth due to the absorption spectrum of CO2.

Increasing the amount of CO2 in the air would increase the amount of energy that is unable to leave Earth. Increased energy ~= increased temperature.

What is the counter argument against this mechanism which indicates humans can cause increased temperature by releasing co2?
