Quantum physics found that matter does pop into existence from nothing as long as it doesn't stay, or as long as it is "as if" it wasn't there but it really impacts things as long as it was as if you didn't see it.
If you put two metal plates close together in a complete vacuum where there is nothing at all besides the plates, there is matter popping out of existence and there is more of it on the outside of the plates than on the inside so the pressure causes the plates to push together.
