How do you find something to research?

I'm a grad student in math, and short of just following what a prof does, I have no idea as to how to find something to work on which produces new results. I can sit and study already done things, but cannot figure out how to find a new problem.

Any tips?

Cryptography....specifiaclly secret sharing.
It is enough to wrap your head around,
the boundaries of the problems being solved are clear enough.
It just needs the gruntwork to expand and elaborate novel ideas. So create some new schemes, maybe write a survey work. Access structures very intersting anon

That is what I would have done, but now I am a truck driver. A fellow driver I work with graudated from law school, certified bar state Illinois. It is a wierd place

most people have 1-2 good ideas in their whole lives

99% of all profs don't have any original content , just good grades which legitimizes them becoming profs
