Suppose i have a cup of coffee
I will drink half the cup, fill the other half with milk, then mix

in your dumb coffee analogy though, you will never perfectly mix coffee and milk, so eventually you will drink the half that had all the coffee, but that is random chance.

This isn't true because the amount of coffee must be an integer number since it is made up of molecules of atoms. Eventually you won't be able to divide those molecules any more and dividing the individual remaining atoms would change it into a substance thta is no longer coffee

A cup of coffee is around 100 mL, and it is mostly water so it has a mass of about 100 grams. Water has a molar mass of about 18 grams, so lets say there is about 5 moles in the coffee.

So multiplying 5 by avogadros number, there is a bit more than 10^24 molecules in a cup of coffee.

Multiply 24 by log_2 10 (about 3.3) and we get about 80

So after around 80 perfect mixings, there should only be few molecules left of the original coffee at most. So there's your answer

We want to solve 2^x = 10^24. If we find x that will tell us how many times we have to divide in half to get down to one molecule.

So take a log base 2 of both sides and solve for x, and you will get 80.

I made a bunch of approximations, but that will only account for a factor of 10 at best, so it is still true there are only a few molecules left after 80 mixings

There is no guarantee that you will ever drink the last molecules of coffee in less than infinite mixes. It is likely that after many many mixes there will be hardly any coffee left.
To get an idea a cup of coffee has something like 10^25 molecules.
ln(10^25)/ln(2)=~83
mixing the coffee 83 times your expected amount of coffee molecules is about 2, 84 times about 1, and so then 85 times and you have an equal chance of having some or no coffee left.

Then every time you mix you halve that.
so imagine doing it in reverse, starting with just 2 molecules, how many times do you have to double it to get to 10^25 molecules?
2^n=10^25
so log base 2 of 10^25 is n
equivalently n = ln(10^25)/ln(2).

wrong, the taste comes from the combination of the molecules, if one of them is diluted to the point it cannot cause a signal to the brain it's not the same taste anymore, so you only need to dilute the coffee until one of the taste molecules fall below the receptor cell activation threshold
