>>11223919In the grand scheme of things I'd say most people that call themselves transhumanists, who know about the sciences. Would much rather use the term life extension, since immortality is impossible. And I think that they are many branches of science that life extension could be applied to.
While yes, I'll never be a cyborg. I feel a lot of people simply would have no desire to/be able to afford it. I feel the main form of enhancement, in the near and far future. Would be minor genetic enhancements. Lack luster, but transhuman.
I also feel that most people realize with "uploading" is that it's a shuck. It's merely a copy, the quality of which is tied to the level of technology in use. I also feel "nondestructive" uploading is impossible. I could buy that maybe we could somehow scan a brain and make some "Shade" of a person. But the thought that you could replace bits and pieces of our brain, so smoothly and precise that the original stream of consciousness is intact is simply out of our reach. The other subject of that is the understanding of our finite universe. Human intellect has it's limits, everything does. Somethings will simply not/can't be. Though I feel humans will be here for a long time, so we won't hit that wall for a while.
I understand my depending demise, and I feel that most transhumans today understand that to. Maybe you have some people that follow that Ray person that thinks that in the coming century mankind will start developing unrealistically fast. That some manner of constructed higher thought process will usher in thousands and thousands of years of scientific endeavor in an insanely small time frame. I feel most educated transhumans understand that is highly unlikely. Same thing with the idea of holding off death, for as long as you desire. People in the year 3754 won't be immortal, people in 6271 won't be either. I just hope that maybe my far future spawn could benefit from the slightly improved genetic science at the time.
