Is there any value in studying math for someone whose main academic interest is philosophy?

Yes, learning higher level math will teach you a new way of thinking. I think physics would compliment philosophy better than pure math though.

Funny, because all of historical change post xixth century was made by people from analytical fields aka exact sciences. But larp as a verbal intellectual all you want. Historians are ever more outside of the humanities tradition, so the value of a continental philosopher to posterity is continuously being diminished.

Not just logic anon. Game theory, social choice theory, and probability are extremely popular and relevant to philosophy.

Yes but it's all still contingent, personal, subjective value as opposed to intrinsic (no such thing). A way to while away the time until one's body stops working and the remains rapidly decay; that is, until the music stops. t. math grad and philosophy minor

Yep. About to do something similar myself. Even if you prefer the continental tradition (which I do), there is still plenty of room for logic and (perhaps more especially) the philosophy of math (which is important for the development of mathematics itself). Also, the two disciplines employ the same soft skills, so if you’re good at one, you’ll probably do well in the other.

Studying set theory, logic/the foundations of mathematics would be useful from an epistemological standpoint, but higher maths is irrelevant to philosophy. Philosophy is conceptual, math is formal and rigorous. Knowing the concepts behind math would be far more useful from a philosophical context than knowing the fine details of higher math. That being said, math is just interesting in and of itself so its worthy learning just for the enjoyment (and to be able to flex on mathlets).
