I'm an applied mathematician so I work on a lot of projects with other scientists and I can tell you that there are a lot of fucking people out there that literally just studied there entire lives. Either there parents forced them and they just kept doing it or they were just naturally gifted.

I study geometric group theory and lattice theory. It has real life applications with polymorphisms of crystalline drugs and the stability of the polymorphisms.
You make a new drug, we turn it into a crystal, there is possible shapes the crystal can have which are based off of the 14 Bravais Lattices that form the basis of any crystal. I tell you stability of each polymorphism and the possible shelf life. You hand me money I fuck my wife, we all smile.
