No, what is relevant is making the compact extra dimensions being something called complex projective space. The simplest complex projective space is the same thing as the 2D sphere, and you know that the 2D sphere has SU(2) symmetry (the double cover of ordinary rotations SO(3)). The next simplest complex projective space is 4 dimensional and has SU(3) symmetry.

So you have to add 4 dimensions not 2.

The thread you linked wasn't all that empty. It was a good thread, by many standards.

/sci/ isn't great for various reasons. A major one is that people ask question but if you invest the time and write out an answer, you might as well never get a reply to your long answer. And, in any case, you're faceless and neither get lasting gratification nor the chance to pic up the conversation with whatever person you talked to on the next day. I.e. the anon aspect doesn't help if it if it's a subject that you can discuss much better if there's names, trust and reciprocity tied to it.
Also, there's a lot of engineers who really just want to finish their tests and don't see any beauty in it. It's a waste of energy if you know they only ask so they can forget it again in 2 weeks when they don't have to bother anymore.
And people are also shit flinging for ne reason.

I mean I give my best to make this a good place, but I also see why it would be futile.

anon, seems like you are defending reddit. reddit has anonymous usernames which is equivalent to tripcode namefagging. and people who do that here suck. the idea is that here, what you say matters is more important than whoever your anonymous username would indicate, and that is a good thing. it is a marketplace of ideas rather than a marketplace of reputation. plus you can say stuff in other threads without harming yourself in yet another thread.

so in theory this place should be good or at least better than reddit. yet in practice all we see are shit threads with 250 replies while good threads die in hours. why?
