Why are scientists snd academics so dogshit at programming? It even happens in ML papers by CS people. I thought this was supposed to be the easy part

Unless you've worked on a group software project where you spend all day sharing code with others, I really doubt you know how to code "properly". Writing good code is not a trivial skill.
It's very easy to look at somebody else's code and say "wow this sucks"; producing stuff yourself that other people can read easily is orders of magnitude harder. If you've been in a software job I guarantee you have firsthand experience of people with CS degrees in CS jobs who just never fucking learned to stop writing spaghetti.
There's no way to get good at coding style except writing a fuckton of code that other people have to read and complain about.

Well there is readability in code but also efficiency in code aswell, sadly alot of retarded scientists don't understand this and great bloated shit in Python or any other language with shit computational algorithm and logical structure.
And even if you write less readable code that is more efficient, that just means you need to do a better job documenting it and commenting.
I really hate scientists sometimes.
