>>11207819Because when they form, they're so hot that they glow just from the radiative heat leaving them (think glowing hot metal). They continue to glow because of two reasons; the first is that while they're smaller than typical stars they're still massive and thus have lots of heat stored within themselves, and secondly they can really only loose heat via radiation (i.e. the light that leaves them) and that is a very slow process.
