this, pretty much any biological science
unfortunately biology has been tainted by medicine and the majority of research is geared towards finding "treatments" (ways to make money) instead of understanding how things work on a basic level (which actually makes way more money but takes much longer to pay off)

So much money is given to cancer charities that they don't actually know how to spend it. When I was considering doing a PhD, people basically advised me "worst case scenario you can do biostats on cancer, always money there" but I decided to just get a job instead

Economics, unless you count that as a social science. Also Physics due to how badly it's stalled in the last 80 years and declined in relative usefulness/influence to bio, chem, comp sci etc.

Biology is actually complicated. You are reverse engineering complex machines with lots of moving parts. That are "designed" by an insane process for strange purposes. Totally different than most sciences that study simple systems.

Also most experiments you might want to do are expensive or unethical or both.
