What is the best way, if its possible at all, to organize a deadly tournament so that the N most skilled (the 1000 most skilled, the 100 most skilled, etc.) warriors always survive at the end? Remember that you don't know the overall level of skill of any warrior at the beginning of the tournament.

Important note, every match must result in the death of a warrior, a tie is not possible for this current question.

By the "N most skilled" you should understand it as the most skilled in relation to the starting group, for example, suppose there are 10 warriors, the 3 most skilled would be: the 1st most skilled, followed by the 2nd most skilled, followed by the 3rd most skilled.

The problem with this strategy is that you want the best warriors to survive, if you paired the best warrior overall (1st best) with the 2nd best warrior, you would lose a very valuable warrior (the 2nd best).

More important points:
>Any warrior can fight as many times as he wants so long as he doesnt die (because if he dies, he cant continue, obviously)
>The tournament ends when only N warriors remain (the N best warriors goal number)
>The overall skill level of a warrior is absolute, the fifth best warrior will always lose to the best 4 warriors, but will always win against the others
>For this problem no warrior will have the same skill level as the other one
>As I said already after each match one warrior will die, ties arent possible
>You are limited to one match at a time (for the amusement of the watchers), so you cant run multiple matches at the same time
>You can change your strategy depending on the results of each match if needed
>There can be no outside intervention, this is a duel between two men only
>Warriors skills must be determined by a mortal combat (so no funny tricks or bribery)
