UK had the know how but didn't had resources to do such feat.
The Germans had two teams working on it independently and succeeded but didnt have enough resources nor infrastructure to even start building a bomb.
Ironically if the two teams jointed together they would have had a working nuclear reactor at least.
They decided not to collaborate.
UK send all research to USA and since the land of the free was untouched ground the design for the bomb was completed in a span of 3 months and the rest of the time was spend on creating infrastructure for material mining and refining.
