What is the likelihood that a solar flare large enough to disable electronic devices for months or years will hit Earth in our lifetimes? I've been thinking about this a bit, and if this happens, since we are so overly reliant on technology, wouldn't we be almost entirely fucked? You would no longer be able to use a credit card, and no ability to use electronics (including security cameras, phones, any form of radio communication). How would businesses protect themselves when they have no real way of reporting a crime or capturing any form of evidence? Even if they reported it, what the fuck are the police going to do when they can no longer use forensics or find the perpetrator? Imagine the rise in crime, imagine the absolute fucking chaos that would unravel given this situation. Am I wrong in assuming that it would completely destroy civilization for decades or centuries to come? Is such a theorized situation even scientifically likely or possible?
