I do not think that we have any choice in anything, free will is an illusion. Why do EM waves all appear to move at C regardless of your motion? From their own reference frames they experience infinite time dilation and infinite length contraction. Photons are created and arrive at their destination simultaneously. So imagine you have a laser pointer, you turn it on, before the beam hits your wall you stick your hand up to block it. Did you choose to stick your hand into it? As soon as the light left the pointer from its own reference frame it had already hit your hand, before you put it up.
