But the new frequency range is huge because we'll have a lot of things goin over it, from you porn, to Google nests to self driving cars (holy fuck the bandwidth) to NSA and China spying on you.
I'm ball parking numbers off the top of my head, but 4G is like 1.5 GHz-6GHz, and 5G opens up to 80GHz. At first most things like cell phones will hover around 14GHz, but for reference your microwave oven opperates at 2.5GHz and chemotherapy happens as low as 60GHz.
Also because these frequencies have much shorter wavelengths they die quicker, meaning well need more towers at higher power output at higher frequencies in more locations.
So while your microwave oven has low frequency it has high power, and your phone has high frequency but low power and is less harmful than sunshine. But the antennas will be high frequency at high power and in every neighborhood, practically in your backyard especially in denser cities. A skyscraper could have it's own antenna.
I'm also wondering what are the global warming implications of this many devices transmitting this many unused waves against brick walls and stuff.
Allegedly the upper end of 5G bandwidth is about what the military uses for crowd control. I have not looked into this and don't know where DARPA makes these kind of particulars available for public knowledge.
