Why do people hate on CS so much?

If anything, you guys should be hating on engineers. I’m an engineer, and data shows that even the dumbest ones get a guaranteed 60k starting.

CS majors actually need to apply themselves, find internships, and master difficult programming interviews.

It's to hide the fact that math and physics don't pay very well or have very many job openings despite being hard sciences, so they can continue pretending that that college grads are poor and jobless because they chose a non-hard science degree.

people conflate entry level software dev with what computer science actually is. it's not all their fault, since that's what the majority of CS students nowadays want, but there's a rich field of CS that isn't slaving away at code.
People here either know that or ignore it willingly because it's easy bait

This diagram is obviously loaded. Of course there are way more STEM majors working in another field (graduated 1970 to 2019) than STEM college graduates (graduated 2019)

Really, everyone knows the high paying salaries on that chart are CS

On topic: a CS job is much more difficult than an engineering job I'd argue. You actually build and modify much more complicated systems for one. Obviously some EE's and Nuclear engineers could argue otherwise but they're a minority.
Really, most engineers mostly work with excel and those who do more complicated jobs still have tons of software to maje their job easier.
Meanwhile a CS major has to learn multiple languages, multiple builds, etc. Every new job means a new way to learn how to build something new. There are only so many ways to build a bridge or an engine but there are so many ways to build a graphics engine or any other application.
It's the reason why CS majors have more ease finding work. They're used to constantly learning new things completely unrelated to what they learned before.
It's a tedious painfully difficult job and not something most people can do.
