Sleeping you're just less conscious but you still have a sense of time that went over. Being brought under anesthetic is like being awake 1 second and then slowly coming out of nothingness into existence at a different place and time.
It feels extremely weird and unnatural. As if you came from some eldritch abyss but you just forgot about it.
