EM homework takes about 7-10hrs (griffiths/jackson) while my Intro. to Modern Physics homework takes about 1hr and Optics (hecht) hw 1-2 hrs. I also have an A in all my classes and the highest average in EM.
I have access to the solutions manual (chegg) besides EM so that also increases efficiency with on the spot corrections. My EM prof questions are all on chegg but they're usually wrong or horribly explained so I spend a lot of time making sure my answer is the correct one.
I notice a lot of people do the homework with others or a TA but doing it alone and with a solutions manual is extremely efficient studying. I might visit a prof 1 or 3 times a semester if there's a concept I'm struggling on.
