These proofs are very very specialized and highly "crafted" i.e. many even hundreds of people might have modified them.
That's why they are so difficult to understand.

The reason why doing pure mathematics courses is pure hell if you're a "visualise stuff" guy (most guys in Physics are like that). You're only given "book proofs" that have been super manipulated with stupid trick to appear prettier, and they do not reflect the original logic that was underlying the basic mathematical idea being expressed.

The correct flow is understand what the proposition is saying, then try to prove it yourself, then read the book proof, and then play around, weakening/strengthening hypotheses and shit.
