What is regarded as soul is actually the collective sum of these effects in a indivual. Some pieces are most likely even shared with several many others.
Accruing knowledge, changing mindsets and thoughts will result in chaning the soul.
This is a mechanism set up primarily to increase entropy and quality information produced, by allowing parralel instances of reality, whose execution order is not guaranteed, to prioritize the calculation of successful instances. In doing so the success is spread over increasing several times the production of information.
I suspect this mechanism also plays a role in evolution to nudge the probabilities in more instances than the single one where a new evolutive trait proved successful. This would explain the extreme unlikeliness of certain evolutionary paths.
I expect this effect should be very little statistically, but of great relevance over the long time and macro scale.
This is literally the only option not yet disproven for anything remotely similar to a soul, if disproven we're all soulless automatas.
