Time is a linear measurement of a cyclical system. You would have to define what you mean by "real". Obviously it can be a useful unit for measurement but ultimately pointless outside of mundane human shit in the big scheme of things of existense.

The period of those periodic cycles would have to be determined by something. You could define that something as time and thus is would be a real physical phenomena. It is almost certainly related to motion in some way, perhaps the motion of our entire universe in some higher dimensional space is setting the rate things occur in their own reference frames.
