I had a chance to talk with my boss today who is a neurologist on a friendly level. I asked how much we really know and can treat when it comes to neurological disorders.

Apparently, we don't know very much at all. So, according to my neurologist boss, a lot of neurology is
>process of elimination

But this is not always accurate either. He told me that he had seen patents that presented with what appeared to be, possible damage to the Dorsalateral Pre Frontal Cortex, only to find that no such damage was present at all, and that the neuro issues seemed to idiopathic in nature.

He told me that many neurological pharmaceuticals are not advantageous either, and some flat out don't work. He went on to tell me that of all the surgical disciplines, neurosurgery is the one where the surgeons are not in a rush to get that surgery under their belt. It can do more harm than good.

He put a patient on kepra last month, and it only lowered the number of grand mal seizures by 1, so he went from having 4 to 3 per month. But here is the kicker, the patient doesn't remember the seizures at all. But this medicine kepra, ruins the rest of the patients life. In other words
>Take kepra, and maybe possibly reduce the number of seizures on a minuscule level
At the cost of being miserable every day that you take it, and have all sorts of negative side effects
OR
>Don't talk anything, have the seizures that you don't really remember, and have some semblance of a quality of life

Are we ever going to cure all this, or is the brain simply too complex varying too much from person to person?
