I wouldn't be surprised if they were responsible for starting the flat earth "movement" even if flat earth was true. I don't think they care about discrediting other conspiracies, in fact I think they want more people to believe them. The whole Epstein thing being a prime example, they made that one as obvious as possible to the public.
They may also have released the information to gauge how many people are ready for a "paradigm" shift. They operate by creating order out of chaos, and it cannot be denied there's a lot of chaos going on right now. They can't keep the globe lie up forever, nor can they stall commercial space travel forever, so this lie has to be revealed eventually, and a new model will take over. We seem to be in the beginning stages of this.
If space is fake and earth isn't a globe, it's going to become increasingly harder to maintain this lie as time goes on because space travel needs to become commercial eventually. They're stalling progress as much as possible but they can't do it forever, so they may be putting flat earth out there now so that the shock of the earth not being a globe won't hit as hard.
