There's a lot of hype and Kurzweil is an unrealistic dreamer. But don't let that deceive you from the fact that significant real progress has been made in the field in the last 10 or so years (eg. in image and speech recognition). But I would not trust any prognosis on when and wether we will reach human intelligence, not even from "experts", because these are just their opinions and not science.

This is a stupid argument. No one fully knows how brains work. Maybe it is just that at the most basic level, but we can't see it because it's obfuscated behind many layers of abstraction and evolutional remains making it seem more complex.
