What comes to mind when you hear "Chemistry major?" What kind of person do you imagine majors in chemistry, and what is your opinion of chemistry majors?
You never hear anyone talk about chemistry majors. It's always engineering this, computer science that, gender studies this, math that. It's a very uncommon major, for many reasons combined. College organic chemistry classes consist of like 95% pre-meds, with maybe one 1 or 2 chemistry majors in the whole class.
An interesting fact about chem majors is that they always major out of genuine love for chemistry, since there's no money incentive. Many of them played with chemistry sets as a kid and watch Nile Red. So, what do you think of chemistry majors? Are they screwed and made a naive mistake by majoring in something with a crap job market, dooming them to difficult lives of being homeless or working at taco bell? If they actually like chemistry, do they tend to be weird people, fitting the mad scientist stereotype? Are they often autists and nerds? Do you suspect that they have dreams of copying Breaking Bad and being an organic synthesis guru in a drug lab?
