When I was younger I felt I was big brain for thinking anyone who believed in life after death from religion as retarded, but I now see it's a genius way to cope with this paradox

honestly once i came fully to terms with the fact that my life will amount to a rounding error in deep time, i haven't been able to feel anything but a melancholic detachment to life (at least it's what i return to in a homeostatic sense). pretty hopeless and depressing, and in fact contrary to the advice some people trot out of "try LSD/psychedelics", i've only found they amplify this "deprogramming" effect, and I feel this hopeless sadness over everything turning to dust eventually even more acutely after them. but in the end after realizing all of this, there's nothing much you can do other than pass the time with distraction, anchoring, sublimation, etc until your life is done for good after a handful of decades, just like the countless, unremembered millions who have come before and those who are still yet to come and go through the same thing.

LSD will fucking ROCK your boat. The worst part about it is after you're doing feeling "enlightened" for like a year the dust will settle and the existential crisis begins. Within that year I recommended LSD to everybody, now I tell everybody to stay away from it

Just yesterday I was thinking about the same thing. I now realize that believing youtself superior for being an atheist is not only unconscious, it's also arrogant and straight up naive
