I know people really shit on combinatorics, but this stuff has a really Platonic/Pythagorean feel to it. It's just really interesting how all these formal structures are so interrelated and naturally give rise to symmetries, order, etc.
A lot of famous "geniuses" are overrated, but Erdos definitely deserves the small bit of pop-sci limelight he gets. Sadly F P Ramsey is hardly known to the public, and even amongst academics he's probably better known in philosophy departments than math departments.
