Factors:
10 = 2x5
12 = 2x2x3
While 12 may have more factors, they are also very small. Base Twelve aids in divisions that never were all that hard in the first place. Base Ten on the other hand includes a 5, which is very hard to deal with in base 12.
So ultimately base Ten is more useful, because it aids in harder problems. I think that is why base 10 won out historically. We've tried base 12, (as seen on our clocks) and it fell into disuse.
