They do not have the appearance of an actual effective solid state battery, which would include a cell grid structure. This is under assumptions about what I know of energy harvesting in general.
Most of our current laboratory improvements to energy storage, superior to lithium ion, must utilize some form of grid style matrix. A flat cathode-anode style battery has some serious deficiencies, compared to modern industrially produced lithium polymer batteries.
The decay, charge loss from damage, thermal damage, etc... wreak havoc on any that are not under vacuum, or clean room lab settings.
Grid cell and patterns help alleviate many of those concerns, to the point that I am not sold on ANY solid state battery that doesn't utilize some grid, matrix, or cell type design, even if these are supposed to work as complex systems grouped together, I would expect to see an optically visible lattice, if this wasn't bullshit.
