I had constantly congested nose, was waking up several times a night, was constantly tired, my eyes were red, even started to get asthma. Had to constantly be on antihistamines, they only helped a tiny bit but fucked up my motivation.

Emphasis on good. I have Sharp KC-D60EUW now. Previously I believed memes on the internet that 'it's just a fan with a hepa filter' and bought some Chinese shit for $100. It barely made a difference initially, and afterwards it started to have a reverse effect, because the filter started to house a bacteria colony. Think about it, it's a perfect place for bacteria - so many dead skin cells. It fucking stank. There was 'active charcoal' but it stopped working after two weeks. It also had an ozone generator but it didn't help while being an irritant.
The sharp filter has a 'plasmacluster' thing that ionizes oxygen and water, so the net charge in the air balances. There's a water container that has to be filled which also serves as a humidifier. When the water runs out it starts to irritate the mucus membranes a bit. However, the ions are necessary as they completely stop bacterial growth. I have the same hepa filter for over two years now, it changed from white to black, but it doesn't smell at all.
