I think I could make major contributions to chemistry if I tackled surface physics. I believe there is a lot to apply and discover.

I'm kind-of doing surface physics right now, but in a biological context. Mainly studying wetting. Maybe I'm dense, but this stuff can be much more subtle than one expects.

De Gennes has a great review on wetting theory, 1985

Fisher and Nakanishi, Multicriticality of Wetting 1982. Connects surface transitions to wetting.

Binder has a lot of great simulation papers

Lipowsky, Nakanishi, Wortis, Pandit have great theory papers.

Other cool surface phenomena is the roughening transition, which I have to learn more about. "Scaling and Renormalization in Statistical Physics" by John Cardy has a chapter about the basics of surface phenomena.
