Not all animal fat is bad for you. Pig fat probably is bad for you. Fun history fact. Before there were Hebrews, Egyptian Priest of Ptah would not eat pork.

Good question. I see many arguments for and against, but historical accounts why these "priests" (they were more like a Craftsman guild) abstained is lost to time but likely had an influence on religion afterwards.
Famous priests include Imotep who designed several of the step pyramids, we know this because pharoah djoser plastered the name of his advisor everywhere (bromance)

One hypothesis I can think of. Domesticated animals played an important role in ancient Egypt. Pork fat is actually very hard to digest for dogs. Which can make them vomit. Perhaps to a group of priests at like wearing ceremonial masks /helmets of Gods like Anubis would want to avoid pig fat for that reason.

Animal fat isn't that bad in moderation, but it does elevate your LDL cholesterol ("bad" cholesterol) which promotes heart and circulatory diseases for most people. Fun fact (that's actually relevant to your thread), heart disease is the number 1 killer worldwide.

Also, in the olden days, pork was very hard (compared to other meats) to keep unspoiled in the hot desert environment. Thats why all of these Abrahamic religions have passages about pork. In fact, many religions include meat preparation techniques to serve as a guideline to help your tribe survive. You could almost make a natural selection argument about how the texts with the most useful guidelines survived because their followers did.

another good point but there were others in the Egyptian Kingdom that did partake of pork is why I didn't want to make a blanket statement. But it was just interesting that the Priest if Ptah were forerunners of the practice in the region before abrahamic religions existed.
If the story of Moses is rooted in truth, he himself would have been trained as a priest of Ptah prior to his exile.

It isn't, stop putting nitrates into it, cook it properly. They wouldn't eat pork for parasite-health reasons. They didn't like getting meters long tape worms evidently.
