You probably didn't try hard enough. If you're north american, australian or in the EU it's 100% your fault. If you're from a place like Serbia or Kazakhstan then you're kinda justified but not completely.

I got a post doc position in the mathematical physics dept at caltech. Worked out for me pretty well so far considering I got my phd at the university of oregon
