Now do that on a massive scale, for industry and all home applications. Every time you process ocean water you have the crusty salt brine left over, and you have to clean it out, and eventually you'll have to replace parts once they corrode. And all of that boiling away takes ENERGY. It's ALMOST prohibitively expensive, so people keep going with the short-sighted solution, because the market wants it.
