Knowing Europe was habitable during this time it's not a big stretch to believe that some early sapiens walked there around at that time.
As a result OoA proponent have slowly migrated to the assimilation hypothesis which is pretty much MRE lite (the main modern characters emerged in Africa).
In my humble opinions as the rate of discoveries augments in Asia (and notably China) MRE will be completely accepted in 20 years or so. The thought that early hominids managed to colonize the entire planet millions years before but sapiens would come from a unique spot is nonsensical considering the timescales involved and the fact we are talking about small nomadic groups (so very mobile).
Pop-sci moves much slower though and a lot of narrative has been built on OoA, therefore most people still believe it's the main theory.
