Regarding 1): Toilets are one area where American consumers, stupid as they are, still care about reliability. Why? Because changing out a toilet is expensive and disruptive. Teflon coatings have great chemical resistance, but their weakness is typically mechanical. Anyone with one of those retarded teflon frying pans can tell you about this: you can't use anything metal in them or you risk permanently scratching the coating. And you *will* be scuffing up your teflon toilet, your shit will dry on in just the same way as it does to the ceramic glaze.
Regarding 2): Good-quality (thick) teflon coatings are actually really expensive.
