Is rote memorization important?

Like for memorizing mathematical formulas, poetry and speeches. Maybe I need to learn how actors memorize their lines and apply it to my life.
I need to memorize verses from the Authorized King James Bible. What tips?

Read one word. Repeat. Read another one. Repeat both. And so on, until you can recite the whole chapter or verse. The voicing of what you're learning may be important, so really at least whisper what you repeat. Try increasing both the number of words in each step, as well as the amount memorized in each step. (you should be able to push it to a numbered line (or whatever it is called) per step and several pages in a day) Practice reciting what yoy memorized once in a while so that you don't forget it as soon as you pass the test. This is an ancient monk technique proven by possibly millenia of everyday use, so forget memory palace or other performance tricks and go ahead with this.

when you actually care about the shit you want to memorize, it is really easy, at least for me
taking AP US History right now and I can do pretty well on a quiz with no notes while everyone else struggles to fill their paper to the brim with information

didn't you have to memorize poems in school? I'm EE and our schools forced us to memorize about 1 2 page poem per year.

Not sure if it's a thing in non third world countries
