The Schrodinger's cat explanation wasn't explained as a coin flip, it referred to a radioactive event that had a 50/50 probability of occurring, and when registered shattering a vial of poison, killing the cat. It wasn't a coin flip with even odds, it was a radioactive event that had to be observed.
