But feelings aren't real. I feel like my cat understands the complexity of of my pain when she stares into my eyes before rubbing her face into my hand and purring, but she might just be hungry and sufficiently aware that the oxytocin released is beneficial to both of us, thus it's likelier that I will continue to provide food, shelter, and safety, even though she doesn't likely think about it in those terms.

Or I could be completely full of shit, and it's just a universe of robotic and unfeeling stimulus and response.

I mean, how the word "robot" became synonymous with "unfeeling" is sort of a mystery, considering the origin of the term (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.U.R.), where they started an uprising that overtook the human race.

Like, you don't do that unless you feel that it's something that will get you want you want - which would imply that you have feelings about what you want. Unless it was a program carried out by a robot that a human wrote, which would be suicidal, and include them in the thing that is to be taken over.
