There is enough resources (especially in the modern world) that almost everyone can survive. So it could be argued that today and maybe thousands of years ago adaptive evolution ceased to be the main driving evolutionary force and now it's mostly about genetic drift.
On the schizophrenia and autism - these are connected to our pattern recognition abilities and intelligence, which are the main reasons we have become the dominant vertebrate on Earth. It's probably worth it to have that for the cost of having (numbers from my ass) 5-10% of the population be a schizo or an autist. And this is without even considering some benefits that may exist from these disorders - high functioning autists are known to do some crazy maths, for example.
