The SR-71 can go mach 3.3. Air to air missiles can hit mach 4 (sparrow and AMRAAM), while ground to air can hit mach fucking 9 (RIM-161). It would cost stupid amounts of money to design something faster, with basically zero return. In any combat situation, why would someone not just use a fast as hell missile, and only pay for the one-way trip?
