Your EEG readings get fed into the neural net and learn to read your mind. Do this long enough and you now have a profile for the user to read their mind.
I don't think we have any solution to this that isn't invasive for the write data to their mind part.
There's evidence that shows powerful magnets directed at a persons mind in specific areas and disrupts that part of their brain.
With enough refinement we may be able to write or edit information in the brain, but I have doubts.
I think the least invasive but practical way to write data to the brain may be some form of machine aided guided meditation or hypnosis. You'd enter a hypnagogic state, then the machine would read your minds eye using the above technique described above, and then use narration and/or sound cues to help guide your waking dream to what ever environment the program designed is to. Getting this to work would require the machine to learn how to control the images you see in your minds eye, via a neural net much like how it learns how to read your mind. But as the machine is learning how to control the users, the user is also training themselves to accept what the machine is trying to get them to think. Both user and machine learn/train themselves together in this process of synchronization.
